Track email campaign bookings

Attribute newsletter and SMS bookings to the send that produced them, and keep attribution intact through email clients that rewrite links.

Email is usually the cheapest booking channel a business has, and the easiest to under-value — open rates say nothing about covers or appointments. A tracking link tells you how many bookings each send actually produced.

Give every campaign its own link so you can compare sends against each other over time.

  1. Go to Marketing Tracking at /app/business/widget/tracking.
  2. Choose the Email source preset — or SMS for text messages.
  3. Set the campaign name to the send, for example “newsletter-2026-08” or “winter-menu-announcement”.
  4. Add a medium such as “newsletter”, “transactional” or “win-back” so you can group sends by type.
  5. Use the content field for A/B variants, e.g. “subject-a” and “subject-b”.
  6. Select the location or locations, choose the destination booking flow, save, and copy the link.

Put the link in your email

  • Use the full tracked link as the destination of your main "Book now" button.
  • If you have several booking calls to action in one email — a button at the top and a text link at the bottom — you can give each its own content value to see which position works.
  • Include the link as visible text somewhere too. Some recipients read in plain text, and some forward the email to a friend.

Check your click tracking preserves query parameters

Most email tools wrap outbound links in their own click-tracking redirect. Well-behaved ones pass the full destination through, including ?ref=, and attribution works normally. A few strip query parameters — when that happens the booking arrives with no tracking link and is labelled Direct/Unknown.

  1. Send a test email to yourself.
  2. Click the booking button as a recipient would, not from the preview pane.
  3. Look at the URL you land on. If ?ref= is still there, you are fine.
  4. If it has gone, turn off click tracking for that link, or use your email tool’s option to preserve query strings.

Attribution is preserved through redirects, so a redirect on its own is not a problem — the problem is only a redirect that discards the parameter.

Attribution timing for email

Attribution is resolved when the guest opens the link, held for 30 days, and stored immutably on the resulting booking. That window suits email well: a Tuesday newsletter that produces a booking for a birthday three weeks later is still credited to the send.

Note

Renaming a campaign later never changes past reports, and archived campaigns keep their history — so you can tidy your naming without losing last quarter’s numbers.

Reading the results

Filter by source in Reports → Bookings (/app/reports/bookings) to see individual bookings from a send, or open Marketing → Insights (/app/marketing/insights) for the campaign-level view with attributed revenue.

  • Email usually shows a high conversion rate — the audience already knows you.
  • Compare completed bookings, not just confirmed ones, to see whether a discount send brought people who actually turned up.
  • If you record what a send cost — a design fee, an SMS bundle — you get cost per booking and ROAS alongside your paid channels.
